A Step-by-Step Guide to Working With Us

We want to make the building process as seamless  and stress-free as possible for you. That’s why we have outlined our process for you, so that you know what to expect should you decide to work with us. We will guide you through this entire process, communicating with you throughout, so that you can rest assured knowing that your building project is in skilled hands.

1. Initial Meeting

During our initial meeting, we’ll ensure your needs and desires are understood, because each project we undertake is unique and we treat it as such. If you have plans already drawn up, bring them along for us to review, or we’ll go over your ideas and discuss your build options. From there we can refer you to our Architect or Building Designer to get plans done for you. During this initial phase, we ensure we review all of the structural, aesthetic, sustainable and cost-effective ways that we can bring your building ideas to life. We’ll tailor your plans and budget to your specific requirements, and present you with a ballpark estimate. We offer a free personalised consultation service throughout the initial design phase so that you can get advice on costs, design and feasibility from the beginning.

2. Finalise Your Plans

Once your ideas and plans are drafted, we get to work finalising all the detail for you. This includes providing you with a detailed scope of work, a list of specifications and estimated construction costs. Once you’re comfortable with our plan and the budget, we’ll engage an engineer. We will take care of all of the paperwork for you, and we’ll  organise a soil test if it is required.

Once this preliminary work is done, you’ll receive a full structural design for your build, which will allow us to finalise your construction costs and provide you with a Master Builders Contract (at our cost). Your contract will include a full set of specifications, scope of work and construction costs so that we’re all on the same page and can avoid any surprises during the next step - construction!

3. Construction

With all the paperwork and preliminary tasks done, we move into the construction phase of your project.  Rob Debenham, the Director of Responsive Building, will be your onsite builder throughout the construction phase, ensuring all work is completed in a professional and timely manner, and that you are kept in the loop every step of the way.

As bespoke builders, we only take on a few jobs at any one time - this means that you deal directly with Rob at all times, and your project gets his undivided attention throughout. It makes all the difference to your finished product and is one of the reasons our clients love working with us!

4. Official Handover

Upon completion of the construction phase of your build, we will officially hand it over to you, ready for you to live in your new home, enjoy your new deck or move into a new extension.

Rob will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, and we’ll provide any additional support you may need.
